This seems really awkward on Plex for ATV4 you have to go all the way into the item to select the watched button. This isn’t really a question but more a request for plex dev’s to look into and see if it’s something they feel is worth spending the time to rectify?? I’ve got a massive library and since moving over to Plex from the standard iTunes setup as I can finally have it on Apple TV.
May 14, 2011 - Now i goto my TV shows and list by Unwatched so i know which ones i. After watching stuff in plex i went back to the main list of unwatched. Jul 23, 2011 23:59:01 [0xb12ee000] DEBUG - Server disconnected: My iMac. Plex is a phenomenal service and piece of software. It gives you both a powerful media center and a media player for a massive variety of devices, everything from smartphones to PCs, even Plex on Chromecast! No matter what kind of movies or TV shows you’re trying to stream, Plex can handle it.
My upset though is it’s just too time consuming to mark everything to watched! What I think would be ideal is to have what Apple had as standard, when you hover over a film and long press the remote to get the sub menu up there should be an option to mark it as ‘watched/unwatched’ also on TV shows it would be ideal if you could do the same and maybe even mark a whole season as watched rather then having to open each episode individually to mark them which is a slow daunting task when I’ve got nearly 3000 episodes of different shows to mark and nearly 5000 films you can imagine how taunting this task is.
Please do not take this as me thinking your idea is bad. ( the hold and show contextual menu idea is useful for sure for one off things. And i personally agree about being able to do it for a seasons also rather just shows and episodes ) just posing a counter argument related to getting huge number of things marked either way If you need to mark a whole group of things as watched, because this is a new server install maybe, why not just do it in the server/webapp if you have so many? You can select multiple films in a library at once and mark them all at the same time. If doing show you can mark multiple seasons at once. Like you can select seasons 1-4 of a 5 season show and mark as watched. In a season you can select multiple episodes the same way.
Just being able to use a mouse and keyboard will be quicker than a remote. Then you can go to your ATV and everything will be set. I did not know about the long press feature, that’s pretty handy.

I think this feature would be useful for Plex users who don’t manage the server. Plex Home & Plex Sharing means more and more people are using Plex who have their own watched statuses but don’t have anything to do with the managing of PMS.

You don’t have to manage the server to mark things watched or not in the web app.

Each accounts watch status is separate per server and unique to that account. If you have access to a server on the Apple TV ( or any other app ) then you have access to it in the web app to mark as watched or unwatched as needed for yourself. If someone just gave you access to their server you can go to the web app mark watch status for yourself the same way, much faster than you would ever be able to do it in any of the other player apps. It’s not much faster if you have people who’s only interaction with Plex is a set-top box. I do agree that if someone wants to do this with their whole library all at once, the web app is useful for those comfortable with it.
Anyways I think we’re both an agreement that the feature suggested by the OP would be useful.
I'm aware of the how it shows what is watched. I just would like to mark the ones I have already watched. If you can't do it in the GTV client, how do you do it on the server? I'll defer to someone with more user experience. As far as I can tell, this watched/unwatched information is stored in the server.
Point being, when I watch a show. It is displayed as watched on all three clients I use (mac client, android, GTV). I've played around in the media manager, but don't see any settings to manually update this information per title. I'd suggest opening a new post in the server sub-forum of the platform you're using.
